HELENA DE SILAGHI SIRAG

Helena de Silaghi Sirag, poet and artist, was born in Transylvania, in 1920 into an aristocratic family whose history can be traced back to a Daco-Mongolian origin. Her father, Desiderious, an artist in his own right, was also a Doctor of Law and lecturer of international repute.
She studied art under Schwartzer-Cumpana, Camil Ressu and Sarbu. At age eleven, with de sponsorship of the Minister of Culture and Art, she held first exhibit.
In 1947 Elena and Ştefan Ciotloş her friend, left Romania for Turkey. Then they settled in Italy, and work as a translator for refugees. She held an art exhibit in Italy.
In 1949 they emigrated to Canada end made their home in Toronto, where she began painting and teaching. She authored books on art and poetry. Her work were exhibited in Toronto, Miami San Antonio, Mexico City, Paris, Vancouver, Wellington, Sydney and Romania. She won several awards.
Her poetry was written in uni¬que fashion known as "Automatic Writing". This is a trance-like state in which the unknown dictates to the mind that sets the hand in motion. Such experience allows the poet to explore, for example, a shepherd's universe.
While this part of her biography might be hard to pin down, there’s no doubt the Romanian-born countess had packed a lot of living in her 88 years before she died in Creek Way Village nursing home in Burlington on Sunday, 28 December 2008 . She was in the late stages of Alzheimer’s disease and had been under the guardianship of the public trustee for several years.

Despre Helena de Silaghi Sirag şi opera sa:

I met the couple - Helena de Silaghi Sirag and Ştefan Ciotloş - through the Romanian Orthodox Church in Hamilton. I remembered her as a charming, generous woman who helped out with the women’s auxiliary. Dumitru STAN

She had an open door policy; You could meet anybody there, from a Romanian diplomat to a welfare recipient.

In the 1960s, while she was holding art shows around the world, she generated a media buzz when she unveiled her first cosmic art. She painted scenes from distant planets where highly evolved humanoids conceived in incubators with vestigial bodies communicated through extra sensory perception and lived almost 1,000 years.
